The Hiding Of His Power
I grew up emulating ministers who had powerful results. When around them I was fascinated by signs, wonders, diverse miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit as promised in Hebrews 2:4. I wanted to be like them in the worst way and often sought the Lord with fasting and prayer.

My own spiritual life seemed rather anemic by contrast. I heard an evangelist complaining, “Peter preached one sermon and 3000 were converted. I preached 3000 sermons and only one was saved.” It wasn’t that bad in my case, but I could relate to the man who made the statement. To make matters worse I would get in the healing line of every deliverance evangelist. When they asked me what I wanted, I blurted  out, “I want an  impartation of your anointing and gifts."

One evangelist stopped me cold by kindly telling me that we are advised on our own to covet earnestly the best gifts. He encouraged me to seek the Lord in prayer by myself and wait on the Lord for His impartation. Then the Lord gave me this word in Habakkuk, “The hiding of His power.” The heart searching Holy Spirit opened up my heart and showed me where my motives were wrong. I was associating miracle power with crowds, notoriety, and celebrity status. The book of Jeremiah told me,"Seeking great things for yourself? Don’t do it!" He showed me I could have His power, but it would be inconspicuous. It would be on His terms and His timetable.

I heard a military man going through the same thing say, “I became the oldest second lieutenant in the air force at age forty-five.” God does conceal His power for a purpose. The reason is for Him to get all the glory and honor. Proverbs 25:2, “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing.” and Isaiah 45:15 states, “He is a God that hides himself.”

AN IMPOSSIBLE, MIRACULOUS,
PHENOMENAL GRACE
By David Mills-Michael

David Mills-Michael It is quite clear-cut in the recorded Scriptures that God makes a deliberate POINT of causing us to become stronger than our enemies.  No one who reads the Bible can miss this truth which the Divine Author of Scripture presents over and over again, and does so systematically and consistently. God makes His people more powerful than their foes!  Oh, He doesn't start out with the balance of power tilted in our favor, to be sure. He weakens the opponents (who have boasted in all their overwhelming might) and He at the same time strengthens His little band of faithful followers -- and then He goes in for the decisive death-blow: He uses His small, empowered few, and brings about the crushing defeat of the devil's empire by means of a small number of warriors full of the power of God. Oh, where shall we begin? Abraham was an older man, most probably in his 80's, when he and a band of his servants took on the four mightiest kings (who together represented what could be called a 'World Empire') and smote them and defeated all the kingdoms of the world!  This is not only a type of little Israel becoming more powerful than the WHOLE WORLD which is aligned against God's nation; no, it is actually more than that. For actually, what "Abraham the Hebrew" did in Genesis 14 is a prophetic picture of what his Heir, Jesus the Messiah, will do --- as the little Stone cut out of a mountain without human hands, who will smite all the empires of History in their most vulnerable spot (the feet) and crumble them into dust!  Jesus --ONE MAN -- is going to conquer (and rule) the whole world forever! No wonder He spoke to encourage His disciples the night before He offered Himself: "Be of good cheer: I have conquered the world!" Well, if Abraham was old, then David the seventeen-year-old adolescent male was quite young when he brought down that foul-mouthed, blaspheming, offensive, smelly, arrogant, contemptible, despicable, uncircumcised, provocative, repulsive, insulting, filthy enemy of God, a miserable man named Goliath, who had stymied both the King of Israel and the whole army of Israel for forty long days!  Not only did young David 'wound this serpent in his head', as it were, but he actually CUT OFF his head entirely; and then he put it on display so that fear and terror would strike the hearts of evil men, and shock waves of pain and panic would reverberate through the very caverns of hell itself!  How much this deed turned out to be a foreshadowing of the mighty triumph of our Christ Jesus, Who "spoiled principalities and powers, triumphed over them in the process, put them to an open shame, and made a public spectacle of them"! If you're not shouting Hallelujah at this point, I scarcely know what to say.

Truly, the list goes on and on.  We have all studied extensively the "Heroes of Faith" in Hebrews 11, and have heard countless sermons on these notable worthies.  But have you considered them as individuals? How OUTNUMBERED they were?  Or how out powered (in the natural) they were?  Moses is on the list.  God used him to desolate, destroy, and bring to ruin the mightiest empire on the earth: Egypt.  Samson is on the list.  He -- armed with nothing but a donkey's jawbone -- singlehandedly killed ONE THOUSAND Philistines.  David is on the list.  Yes, and when Saul expressed a desire for David to kill one hundred Philistines, and bring back some ”souvenirs” as proof (thinking David would surely be killed, with these enormous odds against him) David thought, "Why don't I just double the amount, and make it two hundred foes of Israel that I'll cut off?"  Don't you see?  The actual number of your opponents just doesn't  matter.   It  has  no   relevance  to  God's  designs for your life. Yes, my friend, the list of conquerors goes on and on, because it includes you, and it includes me, and it includes our little ones!  (Herod wasn't afraid of that Baby for nothing!!)  The saga is still being written today, right now, as God is making us more powerful than our opponents.   Praise the Lord!
